The United Way of Greater Moncton and Southeastern New Brunswick, held their 63rd annual Campaign Kickoff luncheon at the Delta Beauséjour on September 8th. Over 550 guests enjoyed great food provided by Costco, before watching the National Ballet reveal United Way’s highest campaign target to date: $2.5 million dollars.
“This year we are challenging ourselves, and we are counting on our community and our donors. Everyone at our kickoff was there today because they, like the United Way believes in their community and that they can make a difference. Together, we can help the people of our region reach their full potential,” says Kirk Muise, United Way Campaign Chair for 2016. “In order to meet the needs of the community, we need to raise significantly more. It won’t be easy, but we have a truly outstanding population here in southeastern New Brunswick, that thrives on challenges, and that understands that stronger we are all better. We have given ourselves 2 years to reach our main goal of $3 million, and we hope that with everyone’s support we will reach it! As our theme states: together, we are possibility. “
In order to reach their campaign goal, the United Way is hoping that each donor will be able to give a little bit more, but that new businesses will become part of their Payroll Campaign. Last year the United Way campaign had over 7,600 local donors.
During the Kick-off, the United Way also presented the Community Spirit Award to NavCanada, an award that recognizes outstanding community involvement. Also awarded were Matt McKeigan and Judith Bourque who each received the Kim Halliday Asset Builder Award. This award recognizes an adult and a youth who “Acts in, builds and changes” our community in a variety of positive ways.
The United Way improves lives and builds community by engaging individuals and mobilizing collective action. Thanks to experience and research the United Way knows that to create long-term change it needs to focus on moving people from poverty to possibility, building strong communities and ensuring that kids be all that they can be. All money donated to the United Way Community Fund is invested locally.
