(Moncton, N.B. – February 26, 2015) – Representatives of the United Way of Greater Moncton and Southeastern New Brunswick (United Way) celebrated a happy ending to a happy year at its campaign closing. This year, through generous donations from over 7,000 individuals, and over 170 workplaces the organization was able to raise $2,312,357.22 for the community, of which, over a quarter was raised by the federal government employees.
Around 170 United Way supporters attended the closing celebration held at Moncton`s Community Peace Centre. They enjoyed watching as volunteers danced across the stage carrying giant happy faces, and then turned them around to reveal the grand total of dollars raised in 2014. Attendees also cheered on as local businesses, employees, government departments, unions, organizations, and individuals were presented with awards for their generous contributions to the campaign and their community. In 2015, through the commitment of donors, United Way is funding 30 programs run through 28 agencies.
The United Way is a local, non-profit organization committed to creating long-term change by focusing on three areas: moving people from poverty to possibility, ensuring kids be all that they can be, and building strong communities.
“It is amazing to see the tremendous support United Way receives continuously year after year. Many individuals, businesses, departments, governments and agencies come together in support of the community. Whether it’s volunteering in local programs or contributing through this campaign, the community’s commitment and desire to get involved is inspiring and a testament to how much people care. Thank you again to everyone who has dedicated their time and hard work to make this campaign a success and for all that you do to help create a better life for everyone in our communities. It is proof of what we can accomplish when we work together for a great cause.” said 2014 Campaign Chair, Lisette Michaud-Carrier.
At the campaign kickoff in September 2014, the United Way unveiled its highest goal to date – $2,290,497.45. Our achievement of $2,312,357.22 raised brings the total collected by the local charitable organization since its founding in 1953 to over $48 million.
