Evelyn (Andrews) McKie was the first Executive Director of the Community Chest / United Way in Moncton and is the only woman to have served as a full time Executive Director in Eastern Canada. Her innovative week long "Blitz Campaign" earned her top honors when it became the first campaign to reach goal in Canada. For this achievement, along with her fresh ideas and thoroughness of systems, Evelyn McKie was honoured in Chatelaine magazine as a pioneer and visionary.
Evelyn McKie worked life long to strengthen our community. Prior to serving with the United Way, she was the only woman to be appointed as head of a regional advisory board that would coordinate all federal government in the Maritime region and report back to the Prime Minister.
Her dedicated leadership laid the foundation for the success of the United Way movement throughout our community and across Canada. Evelyn McKie retired in 1984 after 30 years of service. We believe she exemplifies the meaning of "Community Building."
