ExxonMobil 11th Annual United Way Day of Caring®
(Moncton, NB – June 12th, 2015) Today marks our 11th Annual United Way Day of Caring®. United Way of Greater Moncton and Southeastern New Brunswick hosts the largest single day–Day of Caring in Canada. We are thrilled to welcome over 800 volunteers from across Southeastern New Brunswick. These caring individuals have stepped away from their day to day routines to lend a helping hand to over 60 agencies across our region.
This year, five new corporations have stepped up to provide 40 new volunteers and 13 new work sites have been added to our growing Day of Caring. We are elated with all of the support we receive each year from corporate sponsors and their employees. For the second year in a row we are pleased to announce that our title sponsor is ExxonMobil. We are grateful for the ongoing support of ExxonMobil who have provided us with two Day of Caring committee members as well as over 100 volunteers who will be working to complete projects throughout our communities in Southeastern New Brunswick.
“The Day of Caring offers a great opportunity for employers and employees to provide hands-on support to agencies and organizations in our region and show that everyone has something to contribute”, said, Ken Charters, President of ExxonMobil Business Support Centre Canada. “The Day of Caring allows us to make a difference in our community. By participating, our volunteers not only give back for one day, but also develop a deeper awareness of the important community services present in our region, many of which are funded by the United Way.”
In a statement at the kick-off breakfast, Jim Jones, Past-President of the United Way, told volunteers, “Today you will witness first-hand the impact the Day of Caring has on our community. Every participant here is making a difference to the agencies who work tirelessly to support our most vulnerable citizens on a daily basis.” For the sixth year in a row, Atlantic Lottery Corporation sponsored the kick off breakfast which was held at the Moncton Coliseum, Agrena C. Jones says that the commitment and leadership of our volunteers and sponsors are truly what makes the Day of Caring such a success.
For the ninth year in a row, Cook’s Building Materials of Moncton, a Home Hardware Building Centre, has showed strong commitment to the United Way Day of Caring and donated supplies to help volunteers complete many projects. The City of Moncton has once again stepped up for the 11th year to help provide the materials and manpower needed to make these projects a success. Other local companies dedicated to building strong, healthy communities provided goods and expertise to this year’s event, including: ExxonMobil, Atlantic Lottery, Cook’s Home Hardware, Major Drilling Group International Inc., City of Moncton, Sobeys, 91.9 The Bend, Farmer Browns, Bank of Montreal, NBCC, Audubon, Forte Law, and Atlantic Human Services.
United Way combines the best mix of human and financial resources to support positive change for individuals, organizations, neighborhoods and communities. Thanks to the exceptional support of our donors and volunteers and the remarkable efforts of partners from business, labour, government, and community, we’re making a difference for the citizens in Southeastern NB.
In 2014, more than $2.312 million was raised through the support of our donors, unions, corporations and retirees for our United Way’s annual campaign. All the money raised is invested locally to build a stronger, inclusive, connected community.
