The Developmental Asset Survey was taken by almost 6000 youth, grades 6 to 12 in the Anglophone East School District and the District scolaire francophone sud. Through the survey the youth self-report on how many of the 40 assets – the set of skills, experiences, relationships, and behaviors that enable young people to develop into successful and contributing adults – they have. The more Developmental Assets young people have, the more likely they are to be prepared for life and the less likely they are to engage in a wide range of high-risk behaviors.

Here’s a snap shot of what our kids had to tell us:
- 76% of youth say they get love and support from their families
- 74% of youth are optimistic about their personal future
- But only 36% of young people know how to plan ahead and make choices, and a similar number report having positive adult role models and support from nonparent adults.
- 31% of girls in grade 12 report having good self-esteem.
