Larry Hutchinson Award

2009 recipient:

RBC Contact Centre

2008 recipient:

Lorna Hebert, Fairmont Raffles Hotels International

Larry Hutchinson was the first Campaign Chair of United Way in the community of Greater Moncton. His energy and enthusiasm for finding a better way of raising funds for community organizations propelled the formation of the Community Chest, now known as the United Way. He was instrumental in securing payroll deductions from Canadian National Railway (CNR), the first city to do so in Canada. He continued to be a supporter and a pioneer of the payroll deduction program, developing it in many companies throughout the Greater Moncton area. Payroll deduction has continued to be the strength in all United Way campaigns throughout the country.

The name United Way was used by Mr. Hutchinson even before the formal adoption of the name in the early seventies. He truly believed in a United approach to raising funds. His drive and determination helped with the achievement of the campaign goals. Mr. Hutchinson also served as President for three years and continued on the Board of Directors for another 10 years. During his term, the United Way of Greater Moncton had the distinction of having the lowest operating costs in Canada at six per cent. Much of Mr. Hutchinson’s initial way of campaigning still continues today in the United Way and has earned our organization respect in the communities we serve.

Definition & Criteria:

The Award of Distinction is in recognition of a superior level of achievement or sustained dedication to the annual campaign as a volunteer or an organization that is well beyond the "normal call of duty". Nominating parties should consider that achievements such as long service as a campaign volunteer, success as a campaign chair, growth of a campaign, would not, in themselves, warrant recognition through this award. However, any achievements in addition to these will merit consideration.

Nominator:

The chair or any member of the Campaign Cabinet can nominate one individual that meets the definition and criteria. The Board members of United Way of Greater Moncton can also nominate candidates that meet the definition and criteria.

Selection Process:

The Chair of the Cabinet, Executive Director and Campaign Manager will select the individuals to receive this award.

Nominee Information:

Please forward a brief resume outlining the eligibility of this individual based on the definition and criteria, with a photo and two reference letters.

Deadline:

Nominations for the 2010 Larry Hutchinson Award of Distinction will be sought in December 2010. For more information or to forward nominations, please contact Brenda Wyatt, Campaign Manager at 858-8600 or email Brenda.
