GCWCC Campaign Award Ceremony

On Wednesday, December 9, we celebrated the closure of the 2009 GCWCC campaign with an awards ceremony at the offices of Transport Canada, this year’s host department.

Highlights of this year’s campaign:

Overall campaign dollars raised was $438,572.04 (includes retirees) which is an increase of 13% from the previous year. We had 27 departments exceeded their individual campaign goals which is an increase of 18% from the previous year. We had 196 friends/leaders which is an increase of 19% from the previous year. We had an overall participation of 42% which is a decrease of 8% from the previous year.

We awarded certificates to various departments based on their participation in the campaign as well as their involvement in the campaign. We awarded the following:

Gold – for the departments with 80% or more participation. We had 7 departments receive this honour this year. We had 2 departments move from Silver last year to Gold this year. The departments who received this award are National Parole Board, ACOA, Canadian Heritage, Fisheries & Oceans, Office of the Commisionner of Official Languages, Transport Canada and Industry Canada – Foreign Affairs – International Trade.

Silver – for the departments with 70-79% participation. We had 3 departments receive this honour this year. We had 3 departments move from Bronze last year to Silver this year. The departments who received this award are Citizenship & Immigration, PWGSC – Branches and Health Canada.

Bronze – for the departments with 50-69% participation. We had 7 departments receive this honour this year. We had 3 departments move up to Bronze this year. The departments who received this award are Business Development Bank of Canada, Agriculture & Agri-Food Canada, PWGSC Public Service Pension Centre, Service Canada – Heritage Court, Canada Revenue Agency, RCMP Caledonia District 11 and Status of Women.

Bright New Star – for the department(s) that participated in the campaign for the first time or returned after a hiatus. We had 7 departments receive the honour of being the first to receive this new award. The departments who received this award are Canada Border Services Agency, Canadian Mortgage and Housing Corporation, Correctional Services Canada – Atlantic Institute Renous, RCMP Caledonia District 11, RCMP Shediac District 4, RCMP Richibucto District 5 and Status of Women.

Team Performance – for the department who showed the most enthusiasm, creativity and dedication to the campaign. We couldn’t choose just one this year so we had 3 departments receive the honour this year. We choose a department for the most enthusiasm, another department for the most creativity and yet another for the most dedication to the campaign. The departments who received this award are

- PWGSC Public Service Pension Centre for “enthusiasm”. They held a non-profit “trade show” and invited representatives from Box A, B and C on the gift forms. They had approximately 300 employees attend the event to learn more about the various agencies in their community. - Transport Canada for “creativity”. They held a number of amazing special events including a belgium waffle breakfast, a Halloween costume contest and a tricycle race around the office with participants wearing protective hockey equipment. - Canadian Food Inspection Agency for “dedication”. They decided to get an early start on the campaign and began holding special events like bake sales and bbqs throughout the summer.

Outstanding Performance – for the department who had high consistent employee participation for the past two years. We had 7 departments receive this honour this year. All the recipients had an employee participation of 80% or higher two years in a row. The departments who received this award are Fisheries & Oceans, Canadian Heritage, National Parole Board, ACOA, Office of the Commissioner of Official Languages, Industry Canada – Foreign Affairs – International Trade and Transport Canada. Fisheries & Oceans has the distinction of having 91% participation two years in a row.
