The Youth First Committee of the United Way of Greater Moncton and Southeastern New Brunswick believes that everyone deserves respect and everyone’s potential can be realized.
The Youth First Committee was created in 1998 and is now administered through our United Way. Its mission is to promote and support positive youth development through the integration of the 40 Developmental Assets®. Simply put, the committee works to promote the “good stuff” young people need to grow up healthy, make positive choices and be resilient in tough circumstances! Click here to learn more about this good stuff.
The Youth First Committee is made up of adult representatives from a growing number of organizations across sectors, including local municipalities, School Districts 01 and 2, government departments, local and provincial youth-serving agencies, the faith community, RCMP Community Policing, other community groups, as well as our United Way. Click here for a full list of committee members.
Among its work, the Youth First Committee has thrice conducted a survey of more than 2 000 youth in local school districts. Click here for a snapshot of what we learned.
The committee’s youth arm, the United Way Youth Relations Council, seeks to connect youth to youth, opportunities, resources, and adults.
In 2009, inspired by United Way’s annual Day of Caring, the Youth Relations Council, with the support of the Youth First Committee, launched its inaugural Youth Day of Caring, offering an opportunity for area high school students to take part in hands-on meaningful projects in the community.
