MBS radio stations launch toy drive

Nov. 21, 2011

Moncton radio stations 103.9 Max FM, K94.5 and Choix 99,9 (MBS Radio) are launching their 11th annual Holiday Toy Drive in support of children and youth in Greater Moncton and Southeastern New Brunswick, November 20 until December 19th.

Thanks to our generous community more than 1,500 children and youth in Greater Moncton and Southeastern New Brunswick received gifts from last year’s toy drive. “This marks our 11th year doing the toy drive and we hope that the public makes it the biggest and best yet,” says Matt Cacchione, Operations Manager for Moncton’s 103.9 Max FM, K94.5 and Choix 99,9.

With support from Signway and Champlain Place MBS Radio will be accepting new unwrapped toys and gifts for children (boys and girls) up to the age of 18. Gifts can be dropped off in the box located near the food court at Dieppe’s Champlain Place. The donation box will be in the food court beginning on Sunday November 20th and will stay until Monday December 19th

The toy drive is aimed at making sure that the holiday season is a happy and positive time for as many children as they can through their toy drive. Toys donated go to children in the Dr. Georges L. Dumont and Moncton Hospitals, as well as children in Moncton and Southeastern New Brunswick who may otherwise not receive presents. 103.9 Max FM, K94.5 and Choix 99,9 have teamed up with Moncton Headstart once again for the toy drive. “The partnership with 103.9 Max FM, K94.5 and Choix 99,9 has made a real difference to the quality and quantify of toys donated to Toyland. The staff of 103.9 Max FM, K94.5 and Choix 99,9 also volunteer their time to serve in Toyland which is an added bonus. We appreciate all they do to make sure all children in our community have presents to open on Christmas morning.” says Clare Archibald, executive director at Moncton Headstart.

Moncton Headstart, a local non-profit organization providing early family intervention services to young children and their parents to realize their full potential, will coordinate distribution of toy drive gifts in Southeastern New Brunswick.

Matt Cacchione just beams when he talks about the Toy drive, Toy Land and his past experiences. “We here at K 94-5, 103.9 MAX FM and Choix 99.9 think that Moncton Headstart’s Toy Land is a great organization and are very happy to be one of their main supporters. Last year I had the pleasure of volunteering in Toy Land and loved every minute of it, because I got to see first hand what our toy drive dose for less fortunate families within the community and the impact that it has. Plus it really puts you in the Christmas spirit; I strongly recommend volunteering there for anyone who’s looking to help out.”

While gifts for young people of all ages are appreciated, traditionally most donors give items for young children and therefore the public is encouraged to consider older children and teenagers when making their purchases (see ideas below). The radio stations will also be making a special trip to the George Dumont and Moncton Hospitals on Tuesday December 20 with Santa Claus to deliver some toys to children in the hospitals.
