Gallery Day of Caring CBG Report to the Community Youth First Food Security

56th Annual General Meeting sees numerous standing ovations

Jun. 21, 2010

(Moncton, NB – June 17, 2010) It was 7:30 AM. Marc Doucette, President of the United Way of Greater Moncton and Southeastern New Brunswick, had to ask the crowd to applaud his jokes, but that didn’t last for long. People began to liven up as recognition started flowing in regards to outstanding accomplishments and initiatives taken by volunteer members of the community.

Nearly 90 people stood together to applaud Martin Haynes as he received the A.G. English Award. Haynes was recognized for countless hours of devotion to our United Way this year and for many years prior.

Upon announcing his outgoing presidency, Doucette was pleasantly surprised with a special presentation by incoming President, Jim Jones. After a bit of fun, Jones summed up Doucette in a few words that seem to fit all Board Members’ descriptions. “Marc is a man rooted in the community, full of compassion and empathy,” said Jones.

Other noteworthy events included; the Tantramar Family Resource Centre as the Community Spirit Award winner and saying thank you to outgoing Board members who have put in years of effort and made significant impacts on our communities.

Doucette highlighted broadening relationships, which is one of the new roles our United Way took on this past year. The goal is to bring real and sustainable change within our region. Doucette spoke of the “Upriver” Kent County relationship. Residents in the Welford/Harcourt District are working with the support of our United Way, the Department of Social Development and other community partners to nurture local leadership and take action to support social-well being and economic development.

“We are privileged to be part of these relationships and to help bring about sustainable change,” said Doucette.
