Homelessness in Greater Moncton
Apr. 21, 2010
In 2009 at some point, 737 people were homeless and stayed in one of the city’s shelters.
That figure does not tell the whole story. Although exact numbers cannot be provided, there are many more homeless people, the ‘hidden homeless’. People who live in poverty, abuse or ill health, who move frequently from one apartment or rooming house to another, who ‘couch surf’. Even during bitter winter nights.
What is homelessness? Who is at risk of homelessness? Why does homelessness exist in Greater Moncton?
