Moncton Hoteliers Announce Second Annual "Donate While You Doze" Event for Local United Way

Oct. 15, 2009

(Moncton, NB – Oct. 15, 2009) Two local hoteliers are once again stepping up to help their community by offering a unique promotion in support of the local United Way.

From Dec. 20, 2009 to (and including) Dec. 31, 2009, Hampton Inn and Suites by Hilton, 700 Mapleton Rd., and Future Inns Moncton Hotel and Conference Centre, 40 Lady Ada Blvd., will offer the second annual “Donate While You Doze” event. The promotion will see the hotels’ nightly standard room rates slashed by 50 per cent to $69 ($99 for a suite), with $12 of each nightly rate going to the United Way of Greater Moncton and Southeastern New Brunswick Region.

Last year, the hoteliers raised more than $8,000 for the local United Way through the holiday deal.

“We’re so thankful that the managers of both hotels have so enthusiastically offered to help again this year,” says Marcia Gaudet, Chair of the United Way’s 2009 campaign. “It’s just another example of what a caring community we live in.”

Gaudet noted that this year United Way’s campaign is in full swing, with a goal of $2.1 million. All funds donated to the local United Way remain in Southeastern New Brunswick and support 20 social service agencies in the area, as well as many other programs and community-based initiatives that help seniors, youth, individuals and families.

“Every single dollar counts, which makes initiatives like ‘Donate While You Doze’ so important,” says Gaudet. “It’s vital we reach our goal since there are always more groups in our community in need of funding than there are dollars to go around.”

The ‘Donate While You Doze’ promotion was launched last fall, the brainchild of Pascal Pisegna, General Manager of the Hampton Inn and Suites by Hilton, and Louis Wilby, General Manager of Future Inns Moncton Hotel and Conference Centre.

“We had such an amazing response from last year’s initiative that we were knew we had to do it again this year,” says Wilby.

Pisegna added that the program is a win-win-win for customers, the agencies supported by the local United Way and the hotels.

“This is traditionally a slower time for us so we hope to increase occupancy through this promotion and, in the process, make another generous contribution to United Way,” Pisegna says.

Both Pisegna and Wilby expect the room sale to attract both local residents who might want to enjoy a mini family getaway in their own backyard, as well as out-of-towners visiting family and friends over the holidays, or those planning a shopping trip to the vast array of retail stores near the properties. They anticipate that the sale will also prove popular to those looking for a special New Year’s Eve destination.

Specific features of each hotel will likely attract customers, they note. Future Inns Moncton Hotel and Conference Centre is home to Maverick’s Steakhouse & Grill, one of the city’s top restaurants, while the local Hampton Inn and Suites by Hilton offers a spacious indoor pool and waterslide, perfect for family fun.
