Volunteers gear up for United Way’s annual Day of Caring

Jun. 06, 2008

On Friday, June 13th, the United Way of Greater Moncton and Southeastern NB Region will host the 4th annual Day of Caring, during which more than 300 corporate volunteers will work on 23 meaningful, hands-on projects in our region.

“This is an incredibly uplifting day when volunteers, supported by the companies they work for, gain a deeper understanding of community issues while completing ‘mini-makeovers’ at local non-profit agencies and neighborhoods,” says Marc Doucette, Board Chair of United Way of Greater Moncton and Southeastern NB Region. “It’s really an opportunity for these volunteers to discover that so many people in our region need help and that so many of us can offer help.”

The Day of Caring will begin bright and early on June 13, with organization representatives and volunteers gathering at 7:30 a.m. at the Moncton Lions/Lionettes Activity Centre, 55 Mark Ave., Moncton, to prepare for a day that consists of everything from painting, flooring, moving and building to cleaning, mowing and planting – with lots of team-building fun in between!

The official Day of Caring Kick Off will take place at 8 a.m. on the 13th, with volunteers heading to their assigned locations in southeastern New Brunswick at 8:30 a.m.

Cook’s Building Materials of Moncton, a Home Hardware Building Centre, and Downey Home Hardware Building Centre of Riverview are among the firms donating supplies to this year’s Day of Caring. Many other local companies dedicated to building strong, healthy communities are providing goods and expertise to this year’s event, including Audubon Organics, ExxonMobil Business Support Centre, Asurion, Major Drilling Group International Inc. and Co-Op Atlantic.
